Myofascial Release (MFR)
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The combination of the gentle pressure and slow movements allow for the fascia to elongate.
Fascia is a thin tissue that covers all the organs of the body as one continuous sheet. This tissue covers every muscle and fiber within each muscle. When muscle fibers are injured, the fibers and the fascia which surrounds it become short and tight. This uneven stress can be transmitted through the fascia to other parts of the body, causing pain and a variety of symptoms in areas we often wouldn't expect. MFR treats these symptoms by releasing the uneven tightness in injured fascia.
Therefore, MFR is the stretching of the fascia which is guided by your body's responses.
MFR is not massage but used to equalize muscle tension throughout the body. Unequal muscle tension can compress nerves and muscles causing pain. Progress is measured by a decrease in your pain and by an improvement in overall posture.
MFR is a very gentle method which many clients find very relaxing. I use this method as part of other massage modalities depending on your specific needs and requests.
